Fine Wire EDM

Working Principle

Fine Wire EDM, also known as low-speed wire EDM, is a CNC machining tool that uses a continuously moving fine metal wire as an electrode to perform pulsed spark discharge on the workpiece, generating temperatures above 6000 degrees Celsius to erode the metal and cut it into the workpiece. The principle of slow wire EDM is based on the phenomenon of continuous discharge removing metal through the gap between the wire electrode and the workpiece.

Product Applications

Because Fine Wire EDM uses a continuous wire electrode feeding method, meaning the wire electrode completes the machining process during its movement, even if the wire electrode wears out, it can be continuously replenished, thus improving the machining accuracy of parts. The surface roughness of workpieces processed by slow wire EDM machines can typically reach Ra=0.8μm and above. Furthermore, the roundness error, straightness error, and dimensional error of slow wire EDM machines are much better than those of fast wire EDM machines. Therefore, slow wire EDM machines are widely used in the machining of high-precision parts. Besides early small and medium-sized enterprises, slow wire EDM technology is often used in the machining plants of large enterprises in the aerospace, automotive, and medical industries.
