Wire EDM Parts (WEDM-LS) is a branch of wire electrical discharge machining technology. It uses continuously moving fine metal wires as electrodes and ablates metals through pulsed spark discharge to achieve precision processing. It is mainly applied in the manufacturing of workpieces with complex shapes and high precision requirements. Its electrode wire runs at a unidirectional low speed of less than 0.2mm/s, with a processing accuracy of 0.001mm and a surface roughness of Ra0.12μm, approaching the grinding level. The core processes include multiple cutting techniques, anti-electrolysis pulse power supply and dynamic corner treatment. Combined with fine wire cutting (0.03-0.2mm electrode wire) and constant tension control, it can reduce the softening layer of the workpiece and enhance processing stability. The processing uses pure water for cooling and no wastewater is discharged. As the slow wire electrical discharge machine adopts a continuous wire supply method with wire electrodes, that is, the wire electrodes complete the processing during their movement, even if the wire electrodes are worn out, they can be continuously replenished, thus improving the processing accuracy of the parts. The surface roughness of the workpieces processed by slow wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) machines can usually reach Ra=0.12μm or more. Moreover, the roundness error, straightness error and dimensional error of slow wire EDM machines are much better than those of fast wire EDM machines. Therefore, slow wire EDM machines have been widely used in the processing of high-precision parts.
